A ghost haunts these pages. Diffident. Vulnerable. Uncertain. Horror lurks among these tales of heroism, suicide, and lost illusions. This series of original pieces of literary art explore an array of combat experiences, while also illuminating the mundane aspects of militancy. Throughout this collection, military veterans reminiscence on time served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam.

Post deployment, memories, insecurities, and imaginations arise like phantoms in a mist. Like mirages, these poems progress into illustrations and short stories. Are they true? In some ways, yes. But these are fictions and poems, not fact. This collection does not pretend to solve any problems. It offers complications for readers to digest, and resolve themselves. This book offers no answers, no resolutions, no reasons why. It exists to provoke new ideas, and to help jettison old beliefs. What does not serve our growth, does not deserve more thought.

Press through these embittered phrases, with an open mind. Grapple with defiant takes on how American military might is used overseas. These poems and stories, a bit of a script, collected during writing workshops at Longfellow's House in Cambridge, appear here to inspire delight, amusement, and new creative collaborations.
